Phone Lesson

A few days ago I decided that it was time for Michael to understand how to use the phone. So, I taught him about dialing 911 and the reasons for using that service. And, I taught him how to say and ask important questions when answering the phone.

This morning I tested him. I was in the middle of brushing my teeth so I handed him the phone and tried to listen in on his conversation. Here's a bit of what I could decipher.

Hello.... who are you? Oh. This is Michael. My mom is going to take a shower..... ok, bye.

He turns to me with a scared face and says "That was Dr. Meniur and I have to go there tomorrow at 11:00".

The doctors office left a message with a 4 year old (well, almost 5, but still!)! Better yet, they told him about his own appointment! So now I have to explain the whole thing when we were going to tell him about it tomorrow. It's his 5 year old before kindergarten check up. Yup, he has to get some shots. That's the reason why we're not talking about it and also why Jamie's taking him and not me.

I've been wondering when would be a good time to teach Emma about 911. Our phone is located in a place that she can't even reach to begin with, so I worry sometimes that in an emergency she wouldn't even be able to help.

Our phone is up too high also. I'm thinking about putting a stool under it. Wonder how long it will stay...
