I'm Obsessed!

So, I've just discovered this facebook thing a few days ago. I'm super hooked. It's crazy. It's really fun looking up old friends. Although, I would rather read blogs. I'd rather read about who they are now and what they're up to.

Anywhoo... if you're a facebook subscriber, look me up!

Back to School

Michael had his first day back at school yesterday. It seemed to go pretty swell :) I didn't get much info out of him. Typical. I'm hoping to be a bit more energetic tonight at bed time and see if I can get him talking.

Great news... I'm losing weight! 1 lb. a week... nothing too crazy. But, after awhile it will add up to a great amount!

I've been involved in a Christian program called First Place 4 Health. It focuses on the four sides of a person. Your spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical health. I've been in it almost 2 years. I think the most weight I lost was 5 lbs. And that was about a year ago.

So, what am I doing different now that I wasn't before?* Praying. Early in the morning. Yup, I'm getting up before the rest of the family and I'm doing my Bible Study lesson for the day, reading my Bible, writing in a prayer journal, and praying.

Having a 'quiet time' in the morning just never seemed to work for me before. I never liked getting up earlier than I needed to. Our children always served as my alarm clock. I think with Michael starting school it has changed my season of life a bit. And I am loving it! I'm not even tired when I'm doing it. I feel awake and refreshed and excited to spend time with my Lord.

If you don't do a 'quiet time' in the morning, I would greatly encourage you to do it. Make that the first thing you do and I know God will bless your efforts!

*I have made some other significant changes to my lifestyle as well. I don't drink any pop and I exercise about 5 times a week for about 30 each time. It's been a long process for me. I think I finally get it!

Aug. 30, 2001

Michael will be 7 years old tomorrow... It brings tears to my eyes. Not sure exactly what feeling is causing that reaction. I think I just feel like I treat him so old that I'm missing out on the young things.

Tonight, while tucking him in to bed, he started giggling and said, "Remember when I was a baby and they kicked me out of the nursery at the hospital because I was crying so much and woke up all the other babies?"

It cracked me up! Little did I know then that I would have a very boisterous boy. He gets in trouble all the time for the volume of his voice.

Later I remembered holding him when the nurse brought him back to us. He snuggled right up to me and fell soundly asleep on my chest... that memory makes me cry :)

A New Year

I met Michael's new teacher last night. I think I really like her. It's hard to tell with just a quick howdy-do. I've heard a lot of great things about her. And, after speaking to his kindergarten para-pro I believe she will be a perfect fit for my boy.

So, I'm praying that we have a better year than the last. Remember how Michael's 1st grade teacher left at Christmas break and a new teacher came in? She wasn't from his school nor was she a part of the charter schools. It was a horrible year.

Michael doesn't start school until next week so I'm hoping to take him in this week to meet her. Oh, and drop off his supplies. Man, they need so much!

I Think I'm Ready

Michael is spending the day and night over at a friends house today. I have to admit, it's been nice around here with one person gone. I picked up the house a little and I've been making a few cards. I've played with Maggie more than I usually do. Maggie has been playing by herself really well too.

Maybe I am ready for school to start for Michael. One more week to go!

Up And Running Again

We got our new computer! Actually, I think we've had the same keyboard for about 10 years now but when you open the casing of the cpu it's all shiny and new... and running great! Jamie just orders the inner parts online and puts it all together himself. I know! He's amazing, right? He could be making millions if he continued his education in computers instead of switching to the ministry. But then we would have never met and I wouldn't be sharing all the wonderful snidbits of our fabulous life with you all :)

Tonight we had a little b-day party for Michael. His birthday is actually the 30th. He's been waiting for The Clone Wars movie to open so he and a few friends went and saw it with the dads. They came home all fired up. There were light sabors flying for about an hour afterwards. Apparently they loved it!

I'm Bored

I'm a little bit bored right now. My parents took Maggie and Michael to The Village for the day. My brother is sleeping. And, I found out that my honey came home early from the UP and is home already. I wish I could be home with him. But, I'm so thankful that my parents enjoy my children and want to spend the day with them.

I'll probably head out and do a little shopping. I hate driving in this area and I also tend to refuse to shop anywhere on Saturdays. I'm a bit of a crowd coward. But, the thought of going alone sounds pleasant. Maybe I'll wait and see if my brother will take me :)

I suppose...

... I should write something... Sorry for the absence. I think I've mentioned before that our computer gets a little wacky sometimes. It tends to over heat and shut down. Especially if it's really hot outside. Well, the other day it wouldn't start back up. At all. So, I'm without a computer. Hopefully we'll be up and running soon.

I know you're just dying to know how I'm typing this! Well, the kids and I are at my parents for the night. Jamie went up to our UP house to do some work and I thought it would be fun to come one last time before school begins. I've actually been a little sick all week and I needed the help of my mom :)

Side note... my parents have this automatic air freshener sprayer thingy that automatically sprays air freshener in the air every few minutes or so. I have a mini heart attack everytime it squirts. It freaks me out!

Anyhoo, life is good here.

Wednesday's Happenings

6:30 ish Woke up, prayed, exercised, showered, and got ready for the day. I've been sleeping till about 8:30 this summer. Although, I really like getting all my 'stuff' done before the kids wake up.

Somewhere in between this time the kids woke up and were fed and dressed.

8:30 Watched my friends boys... all 3 of them. I know, totally not like me. But, it was the Long boys. They are my favorite! One is going into 5th grade, one is Michael's age (they were in the same class at school last year), and the youngest is Maggie's age. They play so well!

10:30 Boys got picked up. We headed to the grocery store.

11:45 Made and ate lunch. One of the neighbor girls joined us... my own little mission field. She stayed a few hours and played.

During this time I was preparing food for dinner and playing referee. The neighbor friend needs a bit more attention.

3:00 Took dinner to a family that just had a baby. So cute! My kids love holding babies... even if they're crying.

4:00 Came home. The neighbor girl was back to play for a bit.

5:00 Ate dinner.

5:30 Left to go to my sister-in-laws house. Jamie was helping John with some landscaping stuff. The kids and I hung out and swam in their pool. It was so relaxing!

10:30 Came home.

Crazy huh? It seems like this has been a typical schedule for us this summer. Frankly, I'm tired of it. It's really a lot for me. I used to do one thing a day. That was actually a struggle for me. I love staying at home. But, I've prayed about it and really wanted this summer to be fun for my kids so I force myself to get out more and do things with other people. I'm slowing down starting tomorrow. This list of stuff that I did is just a small part of my week. It seems like every day has been like this. I have a pile of laundry to prove it!

Another Maggie Story

Maggie has been a bit of a crab today. She's been complaining off and on that her foot hurts. On the way to a cookout tonight she started sobbing that her foot hurt.

A little background here... She complains about her legs hurting often. Not a ton, but every so often they seem to bug her. But, it never seems to slow her down much. Once in a great while she'll wake up in the night crying about it. I know, I'll have it checked out sometime soon.

Back to today.

So, she's crying and fussing all the way to Tom's house. She's fine when we get there and she plays with all the other kids. She got tired and went in the house to watch a movie. On the way home she fell asleep. We came home, I gave her some motrin and put her to bed. That's when the tears really started! She just wasn't right to me.

I decided to take her to the urgent care place. It was 8:50. They take patients until 8:59. We pulled in about 8:57.

Turns out she had a 101 fever (high for our family). Nothing wrong with her ears or throat. And, nothing wrong with her foot. By the end of the visit the doctor was pretty much yanking on it and it didn't phase her one bit.

They asked Mag's to pee in a cup. Her eyes lit up and she was so excited to do it. It was cute. She did great.

Well, she has a urinary track infection. Crazy huh? Who knew that an achy foot would turn into that?

I am totally praising God right now because we went to the clinic and filled her prescription and we were home by 9:40. Thank you Lord! By the end of the evening Maggie was laughing and back to her normal self. So, hopefully we caught the infection early and she'll be feeling better and better.
